Thanksgiving this year is now another chapter in history and so is the day after; Black Friday. This Black Friday was the first time I have ever done Black Friday and I really enjoyed it! I was with my friends and the first place we went to is Best Buy. As you may have known, they had some pretty good deals and I did not intend to miss them! One of the things that I picked up while I was there was the re-release of Titanic, now in 3D. I did not see the re-release in theatres because I did not think that it was worth the 10 bucks that they were charging me. Now you are probably wondering…why did I pick it up on blu-ray? For 14 bucks? Well, the price seemed pretty appealing and their were a ton of special features that I could enjoy. It was worth paying 4 bucks more.
I watched it Friday night and I was amazed, once again, at this masterpiece of a movie. Every part of the movie is well done whether it be the drama, the romance, the historical accuracy, or the great disaster scenes. James Cameron did a great job with the massive budget that he had in his possession! The relationship between Jack and Rose was an awesome thing to see develop. I remember seeing the scene where Jack stops Rose from jumping off the boat into the water. From that point on, I really liked the character of Jack and I was destroyed when I saw him die in the cold at the end of the movie. I was a believer, thinking he was going to survive…along with Rose.
Anyway, I enjoyed seeing it again and the 3D definitely helped this movie out a lot. 3D was definitely not necessary for all of the parts but the third dimension really augmented the scenes where the boat was sinking. The sinking really came to life in 3D and I gained a greater appreciation for all of the special effects that came along with it. Obviously, nothing beats the original but the 3D version is definitely a cool thing to own!
The special features (one of the main reasons I bought the movie again) were great! There was a bunch of documentary that chronicled the challenges of making a movie of such titanic scale (*pun definitely intended*). James Cameron and some of the actors talked about the joys and the hardships that came along with the filming of the movie. One of the coolest things about watching these features was seeing how all of the actors have aged. Kate Winslet was just a 19 year old girl when she portrayed the character of Rose and I was amazed to find this out! I gained a greater appreciation for her and the way she held this iconic role at such an early age.
If you are on the fence about getting this movie, I say it is a go! I recommend this to any fan of the movie and any other person who still (surprisingly) has not seen it yet! It is a great piece of pop culture and movie history and I am happy that the 3D version is now in my collection!
